South Gloucestershire Young Sportswomen of Year 2007
Bristol Hawks Gymnast Laura Lovell has WON the Young Sportswomen of the Year for South Gloucestershire. The award, sponsored by AirBus, celebrates talented youngsters. Laura was put forward by her school, ‘The Grange Sports College’ in Kingswood Bristol, after her success in the South West Regional Gymnastics Championships. Laura is the current SW Under 15 yrs Champion a title she won in June. She is a highly dedicated member of Hawks Elite Girls Team and trains up to 24 hours/week. She is a popular member of our team and is great to coach as she brings a smile to every training session. Laura took time off her busy schedule to attend the awards evening held on December 6th.
Great Britain Home Countries Squad 2007
Bristol Hawks Gymnasts Nicole Pavier & Amy Sharp were selected at the beginning of the year for the National 9-11yrs G.B. Squad. The top twelve girls in each age group are invited to attend the training camps which take place over 3-4 days. The last session of the year took place in Horsham on the 30th November-2nd December. Training is intensive and gives the girls a chance to work alongside their peers in a ‘hothouse’ environment that encourages development. Pictured below are the squad including Nicole [centre front] and Amy [2nd from left in 2nd row].

GB National Age Groups
Bristol Hawks gymnast Claudia Fragapane was a member of a 4 girl [plus one reserve] South West Regional team that won the Bronze medals at the GB National Age Group Championships for 10yr olds. This was a great improvement for the SW Team who last year were out of the medals in sixth place.
Claudia gave a wonderful performance on her floor routine & also competed her Tsukahara vault for the first time, landing both vaults. She was unfortunate to fall on her back sommersault on beam as the rest of her routine went very well, this mistake took her out of the top ten individuals overall but her eye catching performance makes her a gymnast to watch for the future.
Compulsory Level 2 November 2007
Bristol Hawks gymnast Shannon Lee shone at the Compulsory Level 2 competition held in Guildford on November 3rd. She easily attained the pass mark needed to progress to the British Championships next year and coped well with the pressure of starting her quest on the beam [notoriously the hardest piece of apparatus to overcome your nerves on]. She was top scorer on this apparatus and second in the overall placings. Elloise Cundy, a newcommer to Bristol Hawks, also competed well passing on three pieces of apparatus and comming third on the Range and Conditioning Set [a routine designed to test the body preparation needed for Elite performance]. She will have to wait a little longer before she reaches the British Championships but judging by this weekends performance her future looks bright.
