National Junior Challenge Cup 2011
British Gymnastics National Challenge Cup offers gymnasts that have not yet qualified for the British Championships the chance to experience a big National Individual Competition. The girls work to FIG [Federation of International Gymnastics] rules and have routines designed for them rather than having compulsory or set routines. The competition also provides an alternative route to qualifying for the British Championships: The most direct route is to pass Level 2 compulsory at age 12 or 13yrs however if you miss this opportunity you can enter the Challenge Cup and by competing well can you can reach a qualifying score for the British Championships.
Bristol Hawks had Holly Downey & Lauren Gore, both 14 years old, taking part as first year Juniors. .
Both girls competed well: Holly landed her Tsukahara and looked more confident on bars, it was a shame she fell on beam as she has been very consistant on this apparatus lately; Lauren also had one fall on beam but had a great competition on all other apparatus, landing her double back on floor for a 6th place finish and performing a personal best bar routine

giving her an overall ranking of 9th. When the scores were totted up we were delighted to find Lauren had reached the qualifying score for the British Championships which earns her the right to compete at the fabulous Echo Arena in Liverpool alongside Claudia next year.
