West Country League Finals 2011

What a great series of competitions the West Country League has been for the gymnasts taking part at all levels through out the year. It’s nice to be able to compete as a team, gain experience, learn how to produce your best performance in competition, try out new elements and all in the friendly relaxed atmosphere that the WCL encourages.
At the Finals weekend Bristol Hawks had three teams competing. On the Saturday our Division 1 ‘B’ team pulled together to win both the silver medals on the day and amassed enough points to place second in the overall standings for the year. Outstanding performances came from: Lucy Kendall who successfully competed her backflip on beam for the first time; Paisley Boyce who landed her Tsukahara vault; Robyn Lacey improved her bars by an incredible two whole marks since the beginning of the year; Zoe Potter who won floor with a beautifully precise performance & Rowena Needham who was the second placed individual overall & won both vault & bars.
Sunday saw our Premiership ‘C’ team also take the silver medals. All of this team have made great progress through out the year and they were all trying out new elements they hope to include in their regular routines in the new year. Holly Downey tried out her 1 1/2 punch straight front, Lauren Gore sucessfully competed her double back somi on floor, Kathryn Heathcote included her new leap on beam to place 4th on this apparatus, Claudia Fragapane won both Vault & Beam & successfully included her 2 1/2 punch straight front on floor.
Our Premiership ‘A’ team were outstanding taking the Gold on the day and winning the trophy for the overall competition for the year. Ameeyna Porteus was dynamic on the vault, Grace Cruickshank fought well on beam, Teagan Andrews swung well on bars, Ellouise flew high on vault and scored for the team on every apparatus, Isabel Davis was second in the individual all around standings & outstanding on both bars & beam where she was took both second placings, Kayley Sharp finished a fantastic year for her by winning the overall individual competition and like Ellouise she scored on every apparatus for the team including top scoring on both bars & beam. Our reserve on this occasion was Cameron Rodgers who has contributed well to the team through out the year & shares the trophy.
