West Country League Match 1 2012
The first West Country League Match of the year was held in Forest of Dean on May 13th. This year for the first time we fielded A B & C Teams all in the Premiership. It was a chance for seasoned team members to try out some new elements & for us to welcome some new team members.
Our Premiership A team were outstanding winning the GOLD by over 7 marks.
Overall individual winner was newcomer Evie Carey who was also first on the floor with her new routine including excellent landings on both her somersaults. Second on floor was Teagan Andrews.
who also swung well on the bars to take first place on this piece. In fact Bristol Hawks girls took the top three places on bars, Elize Waits
[first time competing in WCL] was very tidy to place 2nd and Cameron Rodgers dynamic for 3rd. Notable performances also came from Ameeyna Porteus who flew on vault to come 2nd and flew just a little too high on her first tumble on floor! & Grace Cruikshank who was beautiful on beam and was the third highest on this, the most difficult apparatus to control your nerves on.
Our Premiership B team had a difficult task having lost national grades finalist Robyn Lacey to an ankle injury we only had four in our team with four counting on each piece. Coupled with this we moved up from Div 1 and added two new young members to the team. Despite this we won the BRONZE medals as a team and had the second & third highest placed individuals with Paisley Boyce performing particularly well to place 2nd overall, 1st= on bars 2nd on floor and 3rd on vault, just a fall on her new element on beam [tuck back somi] dropped her down on this apparatus. Zoe Potter was 3rd in the overall standings and 1st= on bars and 3rd on floor showing a beautiful set of leaps. Young Isabel Davis competed new elements on three apparatus. She showed good shape giants on bars but was just a little fast into her dismount. She included a backwalkover-flick combination and a flick to two feet on beam. Ellouise Challenger also performed new elements including a back flip on the beam. Her highlight was an excellent new bar routine with two giant swings into straddle undershoot 1/2 turn, this was rewarded with a well deserved 6th place.
Our C Team took the SILVER medals. Notable performances came from Junior European Squad Member Claudia Fragapane who was the top placed gymnast overall and newcomer to the C league Rowena Needham who placed 4th overall a showed particularly good routines on both beam and bars. Kathryn Heathcote had new elements on three apparatus and competed a well flighted tidy piked tsukahara for her top score of the day. Holly Downey hit her routines on three apparatus with just a fall on her new side somi element on beam dropping her overall score. Lauren Gore scored for the team on both Vault and Bars but had too many falls to score well individually on this occasion.

Overall it was a great start to the year for our teams with plenty of positives and good opportunities to improve for the future. WELL DONE to all [See full scores on our ‘Results’ page].
